Dear Parents/Guardians of Carlynton Junior-Senior High School Students:
On April 24, 25, 26 and May 1, 2, 4, and 5, 2023, Carlynton Junior-Senior High School will administer the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) to students in grades 7 and 8. Only students in grade 8 will take the Science PSSA on May 4 and 5 during a regularly scheduled school day. In order to provide accommodations and support to our students during the administration of the PSSA, it is necessary to adjust the school day for students in grades 9, 10, 11, 12, as well as students not participating in the PSSA testing.
Students not participating in the PSSA testing will have a two and a half-hour delayed start on April 24, 25, 26 and May 1, 2, 2023. May 4 and 5 is a regular start day. Please be advised that the two and a half-hour delayed start means our junior-senior high school students will be permitted to enter the building at 10:00 AM each delayed start day. Transportation to and from school will be provided to all students. Students who are testing will follow the regular bus schedule and the students who are not testing will follow the two and a half-hour delayed start bus schedule.
Students in grades 7 and 8 who are participating in the PSSA testing should report to school at the regularly scheduled start time. The PSSA is a standards-based, criterion-referenced assessment which provides students, parents, educators and citizens with an understanding of student and school performance related to the attainment of standards in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science and Technology. These standards identify what a student should know and be able to do at varying grade levels. Individual student scores can be used to assist teachers in identifying students who may be in need of additional educational opportunities, and school scores provide information to schools and districts for curriculum and instruction improvement discussions and planning. It is very important for students to perform at their highest level, therefore, please encourage your child to come to school prepared to do well on the PSSA.
Specific PSSA information and reminders will be provided by the junior-senior high school in the coming weeks. Please contact your student’s principal with any further questions regarding the change of schedule during the PSSA Testing. We thank you in advance for your continued support.
