COVID-19 Health and Safety Plan

The Carlynton School District is committed to the health and safety of its students, staff and families. The guidelines of the District's Heath and Safety Plan are designed to reintroduce students into the traditional classroom setting with student safety and health at the forefront.

While it is not possible to eliminate all risk of furthering the spread of COVID-19, the guidelines of the Health and Safety Plan includes steps designed to be followed to reduce the risks to students, staff and our local communities.

At the June 20, 2023 School Board meeting, the Board of Directors reviewed and approved the Health and Safety Plan for the 2023/2024 school year.  The American Rescue Plan requires all school districts to publish and approve a Health and Safety Plan while reviewing the plan at minimum, every six months.  This year’s plan builds upon the previous version and takes into consideration recommendations and mandates issued by the CDC, Allegheny County Health Department, and the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

The decision to wear a mask on district transportation and in the schoolhouse is at the discretion of the individual.  Students being assessed for COVID-19 symptoms by the school nurse, however, will be required to wear a mask while in the health office.  Surgical style masks and KN95 masks will be provided to students at their request.  Classroom desks will be positioned at a minimum of three feet separation and group work at less than three feet is permitted at the discretion of the classroom teacher.

Hand sanitizer will be available to all students throughout the course of the school day.  Students are encouraged to wash their hands regularly and will have disinfectant wipes available to clean work spaces.  Our buildings will continue to be cleaned on a regular basis using a variety of strategies including electrostatic sprayers.  Fresh air is consistently circulated in all areas of our buildings.

Parents are reminded to monitor their child’s health condition on a daily basis.  If a child is ill or presents any COVID-19 symptoms, please keep the child at home and notify the school so school work can be prepared for pick up.  Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 will be required to isolate for five calendar days.  Upon return to school, individuals are strongly encouraged to wear a mask for an additional five days.  Contact tracing will not be conducted by the school, however, the District will report the number of positive cases to ACHD on a weekly basis.

In the event parents are uncomfortable sending their child to school, the Carlynton Cyber Academy is open for enrollment.  Parents interested in this option should visit our webpage or contact Dr. Mantich ([email protected].pa.us) for additional information.
