Volunteers


Thank you for your interest in volunteering with our District! The Carlynton School District supports and encourages the participation of parents/guardians and community residents to enhance the educational, co-curricular and extracurricular programs of the district. Below you will find all of the information you will need to get started as a volunteer. If you have any questions about the process or required documents, please contact the volunteer coordinator at [email protected]. Please note: No application will be reviewed or approved without all of the supporting documents. 

School board policy defines the guidelines for volunteers in our schools as an adult, whose role is more than that of a visitor, who voluntarily offers a service to the district without receiving compensation from the district. A volunteer is not a school employee.


Application 

1.) Each prospective position volunteer must complete and submit a volunteer application. Our online application can be found here. A hard copy of the application can also be found here.

2.) If you complete the application online it will be submitted to the district where it will be approved by the Superintendent and/or designee. You are able to directly upload a copy of the supporting documents through this portal as well.

3.) If you complete the hard copy of the application packet, submit the packet and supporting documents to [email protected] where it will be approved by the Superintendent and/or designee.

4.) If you wish to submit a copy of the packet and supporting documents via US Mail, please mail it to the following address:

5.) If you are interested in volunteering at any point during the school year, please submit your volunteer application prior to the start of the school year.  Completing your application at the beginning of the school year guarantees that you have everything on file and you are able to volunteer at any event.  If you choose not to complete the application at the beginning of the year, the District MUST receive your volunteer application with the supporting documents 3 weeks prior to the date of the event.

6.) Once approved, you will be notified and placed on the list of approved volunteers. Approval is REQUIRED prior to your first day as a volunteer.

Clearances All clearances must be submitted at the same time as your application.  No application will be approved without these supporting documents. Make sure to keep the original copy of your clearances. Act 34: Pennsylvania Criminal History Check ($22.00) Website:  https://epatch.pa.gov/home Phone: 1-888-783-7972 There is NO CHARGE for requests for the purpose of volunteering. When you visit the website, click the yellow box "New Record Check" (Volunteers only). Once you complete the background check, make sure to click on the control number hyperlink to obtain the certificate. This certificate is what you need to have on file with the district.

Act 151: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Check ($13.00) Website: https://www.compass.state.pa.us/CWIS Phone: 1-877-343-0494 Once you create an account you will receive an email with your password. Log in to the website and complete the clearance application. There is NO CHARGE for volunteers. Verification can take up to 14 days and applicants can choose to receive notification via email, mailed to their home address, or both.

Act 114: FBI Criminal History Report ($20.00) Website: https://uenroll.identogo.com A fingerprint-based federal criminal history (FBI) submitted through the Pennsylvania State Police or its authorized agent is required.  ~ Unpaid Position: If the volunteer is applying for an unpaid position and has been a resident of Pennsylvania for the last 10 years, they can complete the Volunteer Affidavit in lieu of the FBI Criminal History Check. If they have NOT been a Pennsylvania Resident for the past 10 years, they will need to complete the Fingerprint Application by following steps 1-5 listed below.   ~ Paid Position: If the position you are applying for is a paid position, the Fingerprint Clearance will need to be submitted. To start the application process, follow the steps below. 1.) Visit the website https://uenroll.identogo.com
2) Enter the service code 1KG6ZJ 3) Click on Schedule or Manage Appointment 4) Enter your information to begin the clearance application process. There are several screens that must be completed. 5) Once you have registered, instructions will be given as to how and where to obtain fingerprints. You are not required to make an appointment to have your fingerprints taken but scheduling an appointment may reduce your wait time.  6.) All paid positions will be required to submit a W9 Form. You are able to submit those forms electronically to [email protected] or US Mail to:

7.) A physical copy of the FBI Fingerprint Clearance will be mailed to your home address.  Please make sure you submit a copy to the District or upload it into Raptor.  Carlynton School District is unable to access this information on your behalf.

Volunteer Portal If you submit your application via the online portal - You will receive an email link to set up your Volunteer Portal. This portal will allow you to view your profile, change your password and renew your application online. The volunteer portal can be accessed by clicking here.

The two (2) classifications of volunteers are:

  1. Position Volunteer - an adult applying for or holding an unpaid position with a school or a program, activity or service, as a person responsible for the child’s welfare or having direct volunteer contact with children. Examples include, but are not limited to, field trip chaperones, tutors, coaches, activity advisor, recess or library aides, etc.
     
  2. Guest Volunteer - an adult who voluntarily provides a service to the district, without compensation, who: (1) works directly under the supervision and direction of a school administrator, a teacher or other member of the school staff; and (2) does not have direct volunteer contact. Examples include, but are not limited to, volunteering to assist in classroom celebrations, school assemblies, or school concerts; reading to students; collecting tickets at sporting events; working concession stands; participating in “Career Day,” etc.
