The BJWL program is again being held at Carnegie Elementary. This after-school program is available to all students of Carnegie Elementary in grades 3-6 and is held Monday through Thursday from 3:10-5:30 pm. The program focuses on homework support and Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies (PATH). A meal is provided for all students who attend.
FRESH FRUIT & VEGETABLE PROGRAM (FFVP) AT CARNEGIE ELEMENTARY
The United States Department of Agriculture Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) provides students with a fresh fruit or vegetable snack at school during the school day to increase their consumption of healthy foods, exposure to a variety of fruits and vegetables and promote a healthier school environment. The 2008 Farm Bill expanded the program which was previously only available to 25 schools in Pennsylvania. The number of schools selected each year is based upon federal funding. Participation is limited to elementary schools that participate in the National School Lunch Program with free and reduced eligibility rates at or above 50%. The FFVP is administered at the state level by The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), the same agency that administers the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).
Three times per week, students at Carnegie Elementary receive fruits or vegetables during the school day outside of the normal meal service (breakfast and lunch). The FFVP allows children to try new fruits and vegetables and teaches them the importance of a healthy diet.

Greetings from Carnegie Elementary School!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is John McAdoo, and I am honored to be the new principal at Carnegie Elementary School. I transitioned with Carla Hudson, who has had a great impact on our school and community; she will be greatly missed. However, with her help and support, I feel confident that our staff will be well-prepared to welcome and educate our students. Carnegie Elementary is a beautiful school with a dedicated staff of professionals who deeply value the students, parents and community which we serve.
For the past three years, I have worked as an assistant principal at Carlynton High School. Prior to becoming a principal, I taught English for 19 years at CHS where I also enjoyed coaching sports and sponsoring a number of extra-curricular activities. I completed my undergraduate education with a Bachelor of Science from Penn State University and earned my principal certification at The University of Pittsburgh. I have had a specific interest on expanding learning opportunities for all children and
empowering student leadership.
The mission of our district is to provide the best possible education for each child. The best education is provided with your support, engagement and feedback. Consequently, I will be in frequent communication with you asking for your participation at events, celebrations, and on committees.
Your feedback is valued, and we will be asking you frequently about how we are doing.
I look forward to meeting each of you.
