Congrats and best wishes to valedictorian Lana Meyer and salutatorian Maria Kalymon, two terrific representatives of the Class of 2013. Best wishes to all the graduates!
Hats off to the sixth grade students who were honored for accomplishments during sixth grade recognition ceremonies at each school. Special congrats goes to Citizenship Award winners Melina DeRose at Carnegie Elementary and Bryce Bogats, Morgan Harding and Jeremy Harshman at Crafton Elementary.
Congratulations to some of the top awardees at the June 5 Senior Recognition Ceremony! The Pennsylvania Senate Leader of Tomorrow Award was presented to Maria Kalymon. Adding their names to the Four Seasons Club were Rose Doyle, Maria Kalymon, Lana Meyer and Vincent Pistelli for holding a 4.0 GPA throughout senior year or longer. And Rose Doyle, Lana Meyer, Grant Schuler and Daniel Schuster were recognized for scoring 700 or more in a section or sections of the SAT. Lana Meyer marked a perfect 800 in writing.
A shout out to Carnegie Elementary third grader Zachary Zallenick for taking first place in the third grade spelling bee sponsored in part by the Carnegie-Collier Rotary and Carnegie Borough. Zachary was awarded a $100 gift card to Barnes and Noble Bookstore and a pizza gift card. Coming in second and third respectively were Alexis Jones and Careen Tyler. An awesome job by all!
Congrats to Crafton Elementary fifth grader Elana Heffner! Miss Elana has broken the school AND district record by accumulating 1,003 Accelerated Reading (AR) points in one school year! Well done Elana!

Kudos to eighth graders Will Ford, Ian Kobistek and Rebecca Turske and seventh grader Jonah Schriver for winning the Overall Champion trophy at the Wojanis/NFPA Fluid Power Challenge. Way to go team!

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

In light of the Olweus Bullying Program, the district enforces a strict anti-bullying policy. This policy was reinforced at the beginning of the school year when the district held a school-wide anti-bullying day. Click on the link to read the policy in totality.

The link below is a copy of the decision by the Pennsylvania Department of Education Office of the Secretary of Education. The decision dismisses the Petition for Formation of an Independent School District filed by the Rosslyn Farms Citizens for Education for purposes of transferring the Borough of Rosslyn Farms from the Carlynton School District to the Chartiers Valley School District. The decision states the petition by the Rosslyn Farms Citizens for Education is not meritorious from an educational standpoint.  PDE Decision
The district has learned that the Rosslyn Farms petitioners have filed an appeal to this decision.
