Get ready for the first “virtual” elementary SteAm Extravaganza slated for May 10 to May14! Elementary teachers Michelle Dzurenda (art) and Amanda Sirianni (library/STEAM) are excited to invite you to this exciting week of fun-filled STeAm, reading and art-related activities.
Using a Google site, Mrs. Dzurenda and Mrs. Sirianni will post daily activities, offering a science experiment using common, everyday household ingredients, a SteAm challenge, a learn-to-draw tutorial and a special read-aloud. Students will be able to choose the activities that interest them the most and the whole family is welcome to participate. Students will get the opportunity to share their daily creations and view their classmates' projects as well using the app Wakelet (a cool way to save, organize and share projects).
The SteAm Google site CAN BE ACCESSED HERE and features a countdown clock in anticipation of the SteAm Extravaganza.
Be on the lookout for some surprise guest teachers and administrators who will be showing off their creativity. A virtual art show will be available to showcase some of the artwork students have been working on in art class this year.
Also, a few local artists will be joining in on the fun! Students will have the opportunity to "virtually" walk through some of the amazing art galleries our communities are so lucky to have in Carnegie and Crafton.
We are pleased to be partnering with several local businesses and artists who have agreed to celebrate the week with special offers for our students. Partners include Carnegie Coffee Company and Scoops in Carnegie, and Big Daddy Donuts in Crafton.
During the week of May 10-14, the follows offers will be available to students and families:
- Carnegie Coffee, Carnegie – a hot chocolate and a cookie for $3
- Scoops Ice Cream, Carnegie – is creating a special cougar crunch sundae
- Big Daddy's, Crafton – a cougar donut and juice box for $1.00
Nailed It! DIY Studio in Carnegie has generously agreed to host a fundraiser to benefit fifth grader Lexi Schmidt, a Crafton Elementary student who continues to courageously fight a battle with Leukemia. For the fundraiser, individuals will have a choice to create one of two “Carlynton Cougar” themed take-and-make kits. The cost of a kit is $20 and will include all necessary materials to complete the craft at home. Kits can be ordered during the weeklong SteAm Extravaganza, and will be delivered a week later.
In addition, Carnegie Elementary will be hosting a virtual Scholastic Book Fair from May 3-16. This is a great opportunity to pick up some summer reading materials for all children!
Watch for more information in the weeks to come. We can’t wait to get started!!!
