On behalf of the District and Allegheny Health Network, a virtual Mental Health Forum will be presented Thursday, March 11 at 6:00 pm.  The forum is open to all parents of the district and will offer the opportunity to learn more about mental health concerns and ask questions.

The Mental Health Forum will be presented Crystal Spano, MS., LPC, and Elle Lohman, a nationally certified school counselor. Ms. Spano, a Behavior Health Therapist with the Allegheny Health Network, and Ms. Lohman, are currently facilitating the Chill Room at Carnegie Elementary School.

The virtual presentation will discuss mental health issues and how it can affect students.  The presenters will share ways to recognize and address the topics of anxiety, depression and even suicide.  They will touch on the COVID-19 pandemic and how it has played a role in the increase of mental health issues among students. The presentation will also provide resources for parents and offer a question and answer session.

MENTAL HEALTH FORUM FLYER



The Chill Room at Carnegie Elementary is designed to reduce stress and anxiety in students and to create a mindfulness or awareness of one’s own actions. Evidence-based coping skills is shared with youngsters to build a conscious resilience.

The staff of the Chill Room is also providing consultation to administration and teachers. They often visit classrooms for meaningful discussions with students. Additionally, teachers are benefitting from resources and professional development so they can learn effective skills and techniques.
