Crafton Elementary School Principal Marsha Burleson and kindergarten teachers will host a kindergarten orientation on Wednesday, August 25, 6:00 pm in the school’s auditorium
.

Parents will be welcomed by Mrs. Burleson who will review daily school procedures and expectations. Kindergarten teachers, Mrs. Tracy Alex, Mrs. Brenda Dzurko and Mrs, Kathy Helfrick, will be introduced and provide an overview of the school day, lessons and activities.

The 2021-2022 academic school year will mark the fourth year of implementing a kindergarten staggered start. This means that students entering kindergarten will only attend ONE full day of school in the first week of school.

This system was implemented to provide the opportunity for teachers to get to know each child and be able to evaluate individual needs more quickly. It will also allow kindergarten teachers an opportunity to explain and practice school and safety routines within a smaller group. During this first week of one-day sessions, teachers will offer several small group lessons and activities to impart citizenship skills (working and playing together) while assessing students as they follow directions and exercise self-control.

Letters were mailed to the homes of parents to inform them of the day/date and time their child is to report to school. All parents/guardians who registered their child for kindergarten will receive a letter.

On Friday, September 3, a Kindergarten Meet & Greet will be held for parents of kindergarten students. The hour-long meeting will take place in the kindergarten classrooms and will start at 9:00 am and will give parents the opportunity to meet teachers.

The Meet & Greet will again give parents an opportunity to meet their child’s teacher and receive important information regarding the 2021-2022 school year.  Any parents unable to attend the meet & greet will receive a Welcome Phone Call from the homeroom teacher on Friday, September 3, 2021.

The first regular week of school for all kindergarten students will begin Tuesday, September 7.

As a reminder, all students in grades one to six will begin the school year on Monday, August 30.  Masks will be required for all elementary students, grades K-6, per the school district health and safety plan, which follows all local and CDC guidelines.

For any questions, please call the school at 412-922-7196.

We look forward to an exciting school year!
