As we prepare for the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) testing this spring, the District is requesting feedback regarding these assessments from parents of students who continue to learn remotely.

Each year, students in grades 3-8 are required by the PA Department of Education to take PSSA Exams in English/Language Arts and Mathematics. Additionally, students in grades 4 and 8 also participate in PSSA Science Exams. Last spring, due to the pandemic, the state waived the testing requirement and the PSSA was not administered to students.

For the current school year, the state is not offering a waiver for districts and PSSA tests will be administered on the following dates:

  Carnegie and Crafton Elementary Schools:
        PSSA English/Language Arts:    May 3, 4, & 6, 2021
        PSSA Math:  May 10 & 11, 2021
        PSSA Science:  May 13 & 14, 2021

  Carlynton Junior-Senior High School:

        PSSA English/Language Arts:
May 6 & 7, 2021
        PSSA Math:     May 10, 2021
        PSSA Science:   May 11, 2021

For obvious reasons, the state does not permit remote testing and all students taking the exams must do so at school. The District plans to provide on-site testing locations by adhering to the safety guidelines outlined in the
District’s Health and Safety Plan.

In order to provide the best testing options for students, we ask parents of students who are learning remotely to complete the survey below. Please complete one survey for each child in grades 3-8 who is currently learning remotely. CLICK HERE to access the survey. Again, the survey is only to be completed by parents who have students learning online.

Parents who have questions regarding the PSSAs may contact Dr. Edward P. Mantich or your building principal.
