Plans to Honor the Class of 2020

Our CHS administrative team, senior class advisor and senior class officers have been working tirelessly to plan alternative arrangements in celebration of the many milestones that typically occur at the end of a student's senior year.

The COVID-19 pandemic has taken away our ability to hold the traditional rites of passage ceremonies.
As a school community, however, we have not stopped thinking about how we can celebrate you and your accomplishments. The Class of 2020 is an outstanding class of fine young men and women.

Last Day for Seniors

The official last day for seniors will be Wednesday, May 20, 2020

Returning School Property and Picking Up Caps and Gowns

Seniors are asked to drive to the junior-senior high school to drop off books, a Chromebook, athletic uniforms and other school property on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Please drive slowly up the school driveway, pull around the loop and stop in front of the gymnasium entrance. There, school personnel will approach the car to collect your books and other items in exchange for your cap and gown.

To retrieve personal items left in lockers, please proceed to the guidance office entrance. Personal belongings will be delivered to your car. For your safety, no one is  permitted inside the school.

Next, drive slowly to the loading dock area near the band entrance. Mrs. Post will be stationed under a tent with the senior photo. Mrs. Post will come to the car with the photo frame for you to autograph

Unfortunately, the shipment of yearbooks has been delayed. Information for pick up will be posted when t he yearbooks arrive to the school.

Virtual Senior Awards and Recognition Night

Mrs. Post, senior class advisor, has been collaborating with class officers and fellow teachers to create a memorable senior awards night to be held remotely. A virtual link will be made available to seniors, parents, relatives and the community on Wednesday, May 27, 2020. The link will be accessible at 6:50 PM. The celebration will begin at 7:00 PM.

Academic, athletic and other awards and scholarships will be presented virtually to seniors, honoring their hard work and dedication. The virtual recognition program will strive to maintain the familiar sense of the traditional awards ceremony usually held in the high school auditorium and will celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2020. The annual senior slideshow, which will recap highlights of the entire senior year, as well as every senior, will be shown at the end of the ceremony.

Door-to-Door Diploma Service

Since we are unable to hold a traditional commencement ceremony, we are bringing it to you. To commend the outstanding achievement of the Class of 2020, a “Commencement Caravan” will visit the homes of every graduating senior to present a diploma. There will be time to pose for photos while receiving your diploma and the opportunity for a family photo in front of your house or apartment building.

The Commencement Caravan will be visiting on the following dates and times:

  • May 28th from the hours of 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM
  • May 29th from the hours of 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM
  • May 30th between the hours of 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM

When the Commencement Caravan stops at your home, please come out in your cap and gown to receive your diploma.  This is our chance to honor and celebrate you.

Families will receive a phone call next week with an approximate window or stop number on the delivery route.  Seniors may opt out of having the Commencement Caravan stopping at their house by emailing or by informing the caller.

Senior Shout Outs on the Website

Beginning the week of May 11 and continuing through June and July, the banner of the school district website will feature shout outs to our graduates.  Parents who wish to honor their son or daughter can send in a favorite photo (or two photos max) and a message of support to be featured on the website. Messages should be no more than 30 words. Shout outs should be emailed to Mrs. Herrmann A notice will be sent out to alert families when the message is posted on the banner of the website. Shout-outs will run for one full week.

Graduation Day - June 5th

June 5, 2020 is Graduation Day for the Class of 2020. We are planning a Virtual Commencement Ceremony at 7:00 PM and the event will be streamed live through TribLIVE.  This virtual graduation ceremony will include pomp and circumstance, as well as the customary speeches of senior class officers and the valedictorian and salutatorian. Seniors will be acknowledged using their senior photos and each graduate's name will be announced and recognized as if they were walking to receive a diploma.  As in the past, a traditional graduation program will be printed and all graduates will receive several copies as a keepsake. These, along with diplomas, will be mailed to the senior’s home following the ceremony.

Additionally, we would like to provide our parents and family members the opportunity to cheer their graduate virtually.  Parents seeking to take advantage of this opportunity should create a short video message that will be aired at the end of video.  You can clap, hold up a celebratory sign, or just cheer to show your appreciation for their hard work and determination. We ask that all videos are no longer than 15 seconds and recorded on your mobile device by holding your phone vertically.  Once the video is complete, attach the video to an email and send to  All videos must be submitted by Friday, May 22, 2020.

A few recording tips:
Hold the phone vertically.
Look at your phone’s camera when recording, not your image on the phone
Be sure to speak clearly and at a good pace
Position yourself so the light is on you and not behind you

We realize many were hoping we could hold an in-person graduation ceremony. The responses from a senior survey revealed that the Class of 2020 would like to participate in a traditional ceremony later in the summer.  Therefore, in the event that all restrictions of the pandemic have been lifted, Honus Wagner Field has been reserved for a traditional ceremony in July (pending social distancing guidelines).

Updates and details with dates and times will be made to this page as more information becomes finalized.
