At approximately 1:15 pm yesterday, a faculty member and the building principal observed a juvenile outside Carnegie Elementary School holding a green plastic BB rifle. The school was temporarily placed on lockdown to ensure the safety and security of the students and staff.

When the juvenile saw the principal and staff member, he ran behind Honus Wagner stadium, throwing the BB rifle in the grass near the alley.

The Carnegie and Collier Police Departments responded quickly to scene and apprehended the juvenile, placing him in custody. The police retrieved the BB rifle and a tin of BBs that were also thrown into the grass in the alley.  The School District will be pressing for the maximum charges against the juvenile.
