A ceremony for those who excel academically was held April 20, 2017 in the Carlynton Junior-Senior High School as 58 students were inducted into the National and Junior Honor Societies. Principal Michael Loughren welcomed parents and described the students before him as all-stars. “Tonight we honor the best of the best,” he said.

NHS president Sofia Carassco provided an overview of the community service accomplishments the organization has enjoyed in the past year. Planting flowers for the Western Pa Conservancy in May along I-376 near the Fort Pitt Tunnels will wrap up a lengthy list of gratuitous projects. Additional officers of the high school honor society, Olivia Cindrich, Sage Figura, Storm Figura, Skyler Sevacko and junior high officers Faith Aliano, Benjamin Carothers, Elizabeth Duffy and Savannah Sevacko came forward to light a candle on a table to represent the qualities of a honor society member: character, scholarship, leadership, service and citizenship. The formal ceremony concluded with the induction of the societies newest members.
