REORGANIZATION MEETING

December 10, 2009

MINUTES

The Carlynton School District Board of Education conducted its Reorganization Meeting on Thursday, December 10, 2009 in the library of the junior-senior high school. Those in attendance included School Directors Thomas Brown, Thomas DiPietro, Sandra Hughan, Ronald McCartney, Nyra Schell, Patricia Schirripa, Betsy Tassaro, Raymond Walkowiak and Sharon Wilson. Also present was Superintendent Michael Panza, Solicitor Ira Weiss, Pupil Services Director Lee Myford, Business Manager Kirby Christy and Principals Robert Susini, Courtney Tempest and Christopher Very. The audience was comprised of 13 individuals and two members of the press.

 


 

Call to order - The meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm by Mr. Brown. Carnegie Elementary student Ryan Guzzi led the Pledge of Allegiance, following an introduction by Principal Christopher Very and teacher Andrea Harrity.

 

 

SWEARING-IN OF RECENTLY ELECTED SCHOOL DIRECTORS: District Justice Dennis Joyce led the oath of office for re-elected board members Thomas DiPietro, Sandra Hughan and Patricia Schirripa and new board member Nyra Schell.

 

 

Director Wilson nominated Director Walkowiak as temporary president for the purpose of reorganization.

 

With no further nominations, Director McCartney recommended that the nominations be closed, seconded by Director DiPietro. On a voice vote, the motion carried 9-0.

Mr. Walkowiak, as temporary president, took over the meeting.

 

Mr. Walkowiak entertained a motion for president for the ensuing year.

 

Director Hughan nominated Thomas Brown as president of the Carlynton School Board. Director DiPietro seconded the nomination.

 

With no further nominations, Director McCartney moved, seconded by Director DiPietro, to close the nominations. On a voice vote, the motion carried 9-0.

 

On a ROLL CALL VOTE for new president, the motion to approve Mr. Brown as president of the Carlynton School Board carried 9-0.

 

 

President Brown then took over the meeting and called for nominations of a vice-president for the ensuing year.

 

Director Wilson nominated Director Tassaro as vice-president of the Carlynton School Board.

 

 


Director Hughan nominated Director Schirripa as vice-president of the Carlynton School Board.

 

With no further nominations, Director Walkowiak moved, seconded by Director Hughan, to close the nominations. On a voice vote, the motion carried 9-0.

 

On ROLL CALL VOTE for vice-president, the motion carried 6-3 in favor of Director Schirripa as Vice President of the Carlynton School Board.

 

 

Director Tassaro moved, seconded by Director DiPietro, to appoint Director Ray Walkowiak as the Legislative/PSBA Representative for a term of one (1) year beginning December 2009. On a voice vote, the motion carried 9-0.

 

Director DiPietro moved, seconded by Director Walkowiak, to appoint Director Sharon Wilson as the school district representative for the South Central Area Special Schools Committee (Pathfinder) and Director Ronald McCartney as the alternate for a term of one (1) year beginning December 2009. On a voice vote, the motion carried 9-0.

 

Director McCartney moved, seconded by Director Schell to appoint Vice President Patricia Schirripa as the representative and Director Thomas DiPietro as the alternate to the South Hills Area School Districts Association (SHASDA) for a term of one (1) year beginning December 2009. On a voice vote, the motion carried 9-0.

 

Director DiPietro moved, seconded by Director Schirripa, to appoint Director Sandra Hughan as the representative and Director Ronald McCartney as the alternate to the Parkway West Career and Technical Center Joint Committee for a term of one (1) year beginning December 2009. On a voice vote, the motion carried 9-0.

 

Director Hughan moved, seconded by Director DiPietro, to reappoint The Law Office of Ira Weiss as solicitor(s) for the District for a term of one (1) year beginning December 2009. On a voice vote, the motion carried 9-0.

 

Director McCartney moved, seconded by Director Hughan, to reappoint The Law Office of Ira Weiss as Tax Counsel and Delinquent Tax Collector for the District for a term of one (1) year beginning December 2009. On a voice vote, the motion carried 9-0.

Director Wilson moved, seconded by Director Walkowiak, to designate the Signal Item and Suburban Gazette as the official newspapers for legal advertising for the Carlynton School District and that a newspaper of general circulation be used as necessary. On a voice vote, the motion carried 9-0.

Director Walkowiak asked what the circulation area is for the Suburban Gazette, to which Dr. Panza reported: Crafton, Kennedy, Robinson Township and the McKees Rocks area.

 

 

Director McCartney moved, seconded by Director Hughan, to approve the board meeting times and dates for the new year as directed by administration and to advertise these times and dates accordingly. (Reorg. Miscellaneous Item #1209-1) On a voice vote, the motion carried 9-0.

 

 

With no further reorganization business to discuss, Director Hughan moved, seconded by Director McCartney, to adjourn the meeting at 7:55 pm. On a voice vote, the motion carried 9-0.
