Commemorating 9-11

In Remembrance

Dear Parents, students, and friends of the Carlynton School District,

This Monday will mark the 16th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks that forever changed the way of life as we know it.

On that date, Al Qaeda terrorists carried out three suicide attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon through the use of hijacked passenger planes.  A planned fourth attack on Flight 93 was foiled by the heroic resistance and determination of the passengers on that plane, causing it to crash into a field in Shanksville, PA and thus preventing it from reaching its intended target.

To commemorate the events of that day and to honor the first responders in the police, fire, ambulance and emergency crews who toiled relentlessly, and in some cases gave their lives to save others, we encourage all faculty, students, and staff to wear red, white and blue on Monday.

We will observe a moment of silence at the time the first plane hit floors 93-99 in the North Tower at the World Trade Center, 8:46 a.m. to honor these men and women.

Sincerely,

Dr. Gary Peiffer
