An Evening with Brittany Maier
Well-known savant pianist Brittany Maier will present a repertoire of music in concert February 16, 7 pm in the Carlynton Junior-Senior High School auditorium.
Sponsored by the Carlynton Best Buddies chapter, the evening of music will raise awareness and funds to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Brittany Maier can play any song she's ever heard without practice. She began playing Franz Schubert's Ave Maria on a toy piano at the age of six after hearing it played on a CD. At the age of 10, after receiving formal music instruction at the University of South Carolina's School of Music, she began composing her own original songs and released her first album when she was just 12 years old. Maier was born prematurely, with limited vision and with autism.
Maier is known nationally and internationally. She has appeared on Dateline NBC, was featured on CNN's Paula Zahn-Now! and the Montel Williams Show. She has performed all over the world. In 2007, she was invited to Germany where she performed Elton John's "Candle in the Wind" on a live show that was broadcast to seven European countries.
Brittany Maier's story continues to inspire more and more people around the world. Now living full time in New York, Maier will travel to Pittsburgh for this special performance at Carlynton Junior-Senior High School.
The evening concert will be preceded by a performance before the entire student body earlier in the day.
An Evening with Brittany Maier will feature the songs of Adele, Michael Jackson, Styx, Eagles, Billy Joel, the Beatles, Luciano Pavoratti, Andrea Bocelli, and more, and will feature guest performances by well-known local vocalists Christina Chirumbolo and Megan Strazisar. The concert will close with the opportunity for the audience to request songs.
