Regional Leadership Conference
Carlynton juniors attended a leadership conference at LaRoche College on November 18 to discuss and discover more ways to get involved in school and in the community.
Nicole Auen, Elizabeth Behage, John Cantwell, Olivia Cindrich, Hunter Crown, Eliana Davis, Tayvel Hutchinson, John McMonagle, Shayna Prahl, Piper Stevens, Alexis Stewart and Jessica Vogliano were selected to attend the conference. Breaking out in groups, student-led sessions allowed teens to meet other peers from across the Pittsburgh region and discuss local issues and community service. "I learned to create new conversations with new people and to not only think about myself but to start a discussion about the other person and do anything to maybe make their day better,” Shayna Prahl said at the conclusion of the conference.
The students also enjoyed two special presenters, Commissioner Israel Gaither, former CEO and National Commander of the Salvation Army and Sean Casey, three-time MLB All-Star and founder of the Miracle League of South Hills.
Following the conference, Nicole Auen said, “Leadership isn’t about getting an award or having your picture on a wall for people to see. Leadership is sacrificing your service and having the continuous drive to make a positive difference.”
Jess Vogliano said the words from Commissioner Gaither resonated with her “The qualities of a leader are integrity, truth, humility and grace and to serve others.”
